On January 24, 2023, Governor Reynolds signed into law the Students First Act, otherwise referred to as Education Savings Accounts (ESA). ESAs are now a reality for Iowa families beginning with the 2023-24 school year and beyond.
The ESA program makes funds available "to support the success of every K-12 student in Iowa." The program allows families to use those funds for the school of their choice. In order to serve students with excellent teachers and programs, it is prudent for us to utilize the funds generated by students in the ESA program. Simply, it is the intent of the ESA program that the funds be used for the education of the students for whom they are generated.
Our schools will use a tuition contract very similar to what has been used in previous years. It will also include the various line items for assistance such as parish subsidy, STO and local tuition assistance. Beginning this year, a line has been added to show an "Education Savings Account Allocation."
Families utilizing an ESA will not be charged any additional tuition, as the ESA will cover their tuition cost. The only exception is families who are non-Catholic and attend our school, as non-Catholic tuition is over the ESA amount of $7,635.00. ESA will be available based on the following eligibility:
